TD Ameritrade accounts being transitioned to Schwab accounts

As part of the merger between TD Ameritrade and Schwab, TD Ameritrade customer accounts will be converted to Schwab accounts by the end of 2023. The account conversions, which will take place in groups on the weekends, are already underway, with some occurring this weekend.

About a month before your account is scheduled to be transitioned from TD Ameritrade to Schwab, you’ll be notified of your transition weekend via mail, email, and messages in your TD Ameritrade account.

It’s important to keep your transition date in mind because your tdameritrade.com account will not be accessible during the transition. If you attempt to log into your TD Ameritrade account during your transition weekend, you’ll receive a message alerting you that your account is temporarily unavailable. So, be sure to retrieve any necessary info before your transition weekend.

Though the transition from TD Ameritrade to Schwab will occur on a weekend, you will not be able to access your new Schwab account until 5 a.m. ET on the upcoming Tuesday.

TD Ameritrade customers can create their Schwab login before their official account conversion. However, Schwab warns that customers doing so will lose vital details, like account history, preferences, historical documents, and move money instructions.

Please note that TD Ameritrade and Schwab systems are not connected and the companies’ employees are unable to access account information for the other company’s customers.

At https://welcome.schwab.com/faqs, Schwab has answered questions that customers may have about the transition. There’s also a dedicated Schwab Transition Line (800-780-8614).
